The fundamental truth of how to grow your business
One of the biggest mistakes that I see businesses make with their marketing is asking for the sale too early. It’s a bit like walking up to people in the street and saying “Will you marry me?” You might get someone to say yes sooner or later, but it is not the best way for building a relationship.
Below are what I call the 5’C’s of marketing. The 5 C’s are really about compounding. We have all heard of ‘compound interest‘ and in this video, I will explain about compounding your sales and marketing.
Step 1 – Crowd
This first one is about crowd development. If you could double the size of your email list, you might be able to double the amount of business that you get from email marketing. If you doubled the number of people who visited your website, you might double the amount of business you win from your website. If you doubled the number of referrals you got, you might double your referral sales too etc.
Step 2 – Capture
Step two is what I call going for coffee. This is about getting to know your crowd and more importantly, it’s about them getting to know you. In essence, it’s about offering them something for free and getting their first ‘buy-in’. For example, you might offer a free webinar or seminar. You could give them a free report, white paper or book. You could offer them a free review for example or a free small taster.
Step 3 – Convert
Step 3 is about turning this goodwill and interest into the first sale. This could be a special offer or a small sample of your product or services. It could be a paid for event. In essence, step 3 is getting them to part with some money.
Step 4 – Cash
Step 4 is turning this initial sale into another bigger sale or perhaps cross-selling or up selling the product that they have already bought.
Step 5 – Continuity
This is about winning the customer for life and becoming the natural and obvious choice for your crowd when the time is right for them to need your products or services. In other words, to position you, your business and your products in such a way that there is no choice and they become Raving Fans and not just satisfied customers.
