Closing the gap

One of the biggest questions business owners ask themselves is how to close the gap!  You know the gap!  The gap between where you are right now and where you want to be!

The first two questions are:

  1. Where are you now?
  2. Where do you want to be and by when?

This is where lots of businesses fail.  Firstly, they don’t have a good understanding of where they are now.  They might know what the turnover is and what the profit is, but they often have no idea what the number behind those numbers are.

Secondly, they often have no clue about where they want to go, or how to get there.  They often give me very vague answers to the question – what does success look like to you?

So, the keys are:

  1. To know where you are
  2. To know where you want to go
  3. To know when you want to get there by and then produce a plan to get you there.

But here is the good news.

Someone has already got there and if you ask they can help you to get there.  You just have to ask.  One of the keys to success is without a doubt is to ‘model success’.  In other words, if you want to be good at Tennis, don’t play with people who aren’t good, but rather go and find someone who is good and do the same things.

The same is true of marketing.  Find someone who is highly experienced in helping businesses like yours and hire them to help you.
